Winston Solicitors continues to expand its legal team with a new appointment. David King has recently joined the firm, though not through the traditional route. Having passed the academic stage of training to become a barrister, David changed direction, completing his training at Winston’s to qualify as a solicitor and join the litigation department.

Solicitor Ralph Ross recently retired after 53 years of practice. He began his working life in November 1958 at J Bryan Smith & Co, a firm which was eventually taken over in 1996 by Ian Gillis & Co. In December 2008 he joined our legal team. Gloria Rodriguez, who has been his secretary since 1985, also made the move with him. Ralph was on the Duty Solicitor Rota for many years, until he grew tired of being called out in the middle of the night (and sometimes more than once) and concluded that it was “a young man’s game” so decided to come off the rota.  ...

This year Winston Solicitors joined in with the Radio Aire and Magic 828’s Cash for Kids Christmas Appeal. Staff donated gifts and also encouraged neighbouring businesses to drop off gifts at their office on Street Lane. Family solicitor Joanna Wrigley then played Santa and delivered the car load of presents to Radio Aire. They were incredibly appreciative and could not believe how many toys were delivered to them. It is a sad truth that many children in Leeds will wake up on Christmas morning with not a single present to open. This Christmas we’re supporting the Radio Aire and Magic 828’s Cash for Kids Christmas Appeal. By adding an extra present to our Christmas shopping lists, that extra gift can be distributed to children in Leeds who wouldn’t receive anything. Winston Solicitors took part in a fundraising initiative for Breast Cancer Haven. On a designated Thursday in October, staff were invited to ‘Bring a pound to work day’ and succeeded in raising of £36 to send to the charity. As there was no fancy dress outfits to be forced to wear, or special training required, it was an effortless way to contribute to the Leeds charity.
