Held in a lively and welcoming atmosphere, the event brought together 18 teams, all competing for the top spot and a set of famously modest, but highly coveted, trophies. The evening combined friendly competition with a unified purpose, as participants tested their knowledge across a range of creative and entertaining rounds.

From light-hearted challenges such as “Heads and Tails” to brain-teasing questions, including one memorable round featuring “a prehistoric Google logo,” the quiz delivered an engaging and laughter-filled experience for all involved. The event has become a staple in the firm’s calendar, reflecting its ongoing commitment to supporting local causes while bringing people together.

Some Very Special Guests

The evening was also attended by the Lord Mayor, Dan Cohen, and the Lady Mayoress, Elayna Cohen, who are supporting Leeds Mencap as chosen charity for the year. Leeds Mencap provides essential services for people with learning disabilities and their families. Having the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress join the Leeds Mencap team this year further highlights the significance of the event within the wider Leeds community and its alignment with the Lord Mayor’s charitable focus for the year.

Speaking about the decision to support Leeds Mencap, the Lord Mayor emphasised the importance of inclusivity and opportunity, saying:

"Everyone deserves the opportunity to reach their potential, regardless of any learning disability."

His words resonated with the guests helping to emphasise the importance of the evening’s fundraising efforts.

The event also featured a charity raffle, which played a significant role in reaching the fundraising total. Generous contributions from attendees and Leeds businesses helped drive ticket sales, with a range of great prizes. The combined efforts of quiz participants, donors, and organisers culminated in a total that will make a meaningful difference to Leeds Mencap’s work.

Leeds Mencap

Leeds Mencap, an independent charity set up over 70 years ago, provides essential support, advice, and opportunities for children and adults with learning disabilities, as well as their families and carers. As Winston Solicitors sponsors the quiz in its entirety all the funds raised go directly to sustaining and developing services at Leeds Mencap, enabling the charity to continue its mission of empowering individuals to live fulfilling and independent lives.

Leeds Mencap has expressed their gratitude for the donation, highlighting the tangible impact such community-driven fundraising initiatives can have. Events such as the annual quiz not only provide financial support but also help raise awareness of the challenges faced by people with learning disabilities and the importance of inclusive community networks.

A History of Supporting the Local Community

Over the past eleven years, the Winston Solicitors annual quiz has grown into more than just a fundraising event, it has become a celebration of community spirit in Leeds. Businesses, professionals, friends and family come together each year, united by a shared goal of making a positive difference while aiming to be the winning team.

The continued success of the event reflects both the generosity of those who take part and the enduring appeal of a format that combines entertainment with meaningful impact. Each year builds on the last, strengthening connections within the local community and reinforcing the importance of supporting organisations like Leeds Mencap.

As the evening drew to a close, organisers and attendees alike reflected on another successful year, with appreciation extended to everyone who contributed, whether by forming a team, purchasing raffle tickets, or simply showing their support.

With plans already anticipated for the next instalment, the Winston Solicitors annual quiz shows no signs of slowing down.

The event will return in 2027, promising another opportunity for the Leeds community to come together in support of a truly worthwhile cause.
