New Guidance on Vento Bands

Changes to Vento Bands: An increase for Injury to Feelings Compensation in Discrimination Cases

The Vento bands are a set of guidelines used by employment tribunals to determine the amount of compensation awarded for injury to feelings in discrimination cases.

Previously, the Vento bands were as follows:

  • Lower band: £900 to £9,900
  • Middle band: £9,900 to £29,600
  • Upper band: £29,600 to £49,300

However, the new guidance applicable from 06 April 2023 increases the Vento bands account for inflation and other factors, as follows:

  • Lower band: £1,100 to £11,200
  • Middle band: £11,200 to £33,700
  • Upper band: £33,700 to £56,200

The new guidance also includes a fourth band, which can be used for the most serious cases of discrimination. This band has no upper limit and is only intended for the most exceptional cases.
