Who or what is “Resolution”?

Resolution is the professional body for family lawyers and others practising in the area of family law. Such as financial planners and mediators. Resolution was founded in 1982 by a group of family lawyers who believed a non-confrontational approach to family law issues would produce better outcomes for separating families and their children.

Resolution members have a Code of Practice, to which members are committed. It includes working on behalf of families in a constructive way.

Presently, the family courts are grappling with a high volume of cases. The limited resources and lengthy delays often add additional distress for families who are already going through one of the most difficult times of their lives.

Of course, there is never a “good” time to divorce. But our family specialists are committed to resolving family disputes in a constructive and non-adversarial manner. We help to guide clients through the process with the utmost care and professionalism.

What is Good Divorce Week?

Good Divorce Week is an annual campaign organised by Resolution. This is our professional organisation, comprising more than 6,500 family justice professionals who are committed to dealing constructively with family disputes.

Members of Resolution are committed to upholding and embracing the Code of Practice in an effort to support clients in resolving matters positively and with as little hostility as possible.

What does Good Divorce Week focus on?

This year Good Divorce Week will place special focus on Resolution’s ‘Code of Practice,’ which is an initiative aimed at reminding members about what it means to be a member of Resolution. It’s about being committed to dealing with family disputes with the needs of the family at the forefront of any decision making.

What is the Code of Practice?

The Code of Practice sets out the principles of a non-confrontational approach to family disputes and our specialists at Winston Solicitors fully support and adopt the Code in their work.

The Code provides a helpful guide to assist family professionals and means that they:

avoid inflammatory language:

  • support and encourage parties to put the best interests of the children first;
  • act with honest, integrity and objectivity;
  • help clients consider the long-term emotional and financial impact of their decisions;
  • promote communication and collaboration wherever possible; and
  • use experience and knowledge to guide clients through the options available to them.

What does Good Divorce week entail?

Resolution encourages its members during “Good Divorce Week” to demonstrate their commitment to the Code of Practice, As well as reminding them of the abundance of resources which are available to them. This includes (but is not limited to) good practice guides, precedent orders and agreement and training opportunities which are aimed at embracing Resolution’s values and keeping the Code at the centre of everything that they do.

During Good Divorce Week, members will be asked to get involved, discuss experiences, host events and/or simply remind colleagues and clients why the Code is so important.

Winston solicitors were very caring an concerned from the start of the process from learning about my situation an worries They were professional throughout with regular calls and updates, and explained in detail the steps needed to take to get things resolved
Richard
I cannot recommend Winston's highly enough. My case in question was extremely long, convoluted and complex. Yet Winston's and in particular Harriet Reid and Emily Bell, proved to be more than up to the task. Sticking to and sifting through the facts and presenting the evidence, despite volumes of irrelevant information being thrown at them. The results achieved in court, were a true testament to their skill dedication, knowledge and understanding of the subject at hand.
