A divorce settlement, said to be worth “hundreds of millions of pounds”, has been agreed in the High Court.
The settlement, which is the biggest ever in Britain, comes after Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky, who is a billionaire, admitted unreasonable behaviour against his former wife Galina Besharova. The couple, whose settlement was described as “amicable”, had been married for 18 years, but had lived apart for 16 of those years as Mr Berezovsky had moved in with his current partner.
Mr Berezovsky made his millions by turning a single Mercedes dealership in Moscow into a chain that he later sold for £350m. At the High Court Mrs Justice Eleanor King said: “It doesn’t matter whether the awards are thousands of pounds or hundreds of millions of pounds. At the end of the day if the husband and wife can reach agreement they can both live with, it bodes much better for their future welfare and for the children of the family.”
