What does “DV survivor” mean?
A DV survivor is someone who has experienced domestic violence or abuse and found a way to move forward. It recognises your strength, not just your past. This term includes people affected by physical, sexual, psychological, financial, or emotional abuse, as defined by the Domestic Abuse Act 2021.
You’ve survived what many can’t imagine. Our job is to help you find justice and financial recognition for what you’ve endured

Can you claim domestic abuse compensation?
Yes. If you’ve suffered physical or sexual violence, or a psychological injury caused by direct threats to your life, you may be eligible to claim through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA).
This Government-backed scheme helps survivors receive financial recognition for what they’ve been through.
Unfortunately, the CICA scheme does not currently cover purely psychological, emotional, or financial abuse without physical violence or threats.
How much compensation can survivors receive?
Compensation amounts vary depending on your injuries and experience. For example, survivors of domestic violence causing physical injury may receive up to £8,200, or more if there were serious or multiple assaults, or been diagnosed with a disabling mental injury due to abuse.
Each case is unique. That’s why we’ll assess your situation carefully before starting your claim.

A DV survivor is someone who has experienced domestic violence or abuse and is now rebuilding their life. The term focuses on strength and recovery rather than victimhood. It includes anyone affected by physical, sexual, psychological, or emotional abuse.
Under the current Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) rules, claims are only accepted for physical or sexual violence, or Long term psychological injuries as a result of the abuse.
Yes. The CICA requires that domestic abuse or violence is reported to the police and that you cooperate with the investigation. If you’re worried about reporting, our solicitors can guide you through the process safely and confidentially.
In most cases, you must apply to the CICA within two years of reporting the abuse to the police.
The amount depends on your injuries and experience. Survivors of domestic violence who suffered physical harm may receive up to £8,200 or more for serious assaults. Each case is different, and we’ll calculate what you may be entitled to during your free consultation.
Yes. You can still make a CICA claim if there wasn’t a conviction. As long as there’s enough evidence that a crime of violence occurred and you cooperated with the police. We can help you gather the right information and explain what counts as evidence.
You may still be able to claim even if the abuse happened long ago. The CICA allows historic abuse claims in certain circumstances, particularly if you couldn’t report earlier due to fear, trauma, or age. Speak to us and we’ll review your situation with care.
