Substantive provisions of the new Equality Act 2010 come into force on 1st October 2010. The Act brings disability, sex, race and other grounds of discrimination within a single piece of legislation and also makes changes to the law.

The Employment Team at Winston Solicitors will be holding a free seminar with Bruce Frew, Employment Barrister, on the evening of 30th September 2010 at their office so that the businesses attending can learn about the impact of the Equality Act 2010 in their workplace.

The story of equality legislation is an interesting one and coincidentally, this year sees the release of the film ‘Made in Dagenham’ which highlights the inequality that faced women in 1968 and shows how a group of outnumbered female factory workers at a Ford plant in Dagenham went on strike, demanding the same wages as the men who worked less skilled jobs, and paved the way for the Equal Pay Act 1970. The ladies rallied together, marching several times on Westminster, to achieve 92% of the men’s wages.
