A new report, which has been commissioned to coincide with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, shows a very different Britain in 2012 compared to the way things were when Queen Elizabeth first came to the throne.

The report, compiled by the Office for National Statistics along with other government departments, shows that there are about four times as many divorces in 2012, a third fewer marriages and over 13,000 centurions compared to just 300 in 1952. It is estimated that the Queen has sent telegrams to about 110,000 over the 60 years of her reign but, it is likely that she will be sending to record numbers in the future and life expectancy generally is much changed. In 1952 a baby boy had a life expectancy of 78 compared to 91 today.

While more may be reaching the age of 100, they will have to wait longer to get their pension however. It is already set to rise to 66 for both men and women by 2020, to 67 in 2028 and will continue to rise further as life expectancy follows suit.

Client feedback

Winston Solicitors were absolutely amazing! This was our second time moving house with Leasa and Julie and we genuinely cannot imagine the moving process without them! They were so friendly, kept us up to date throughout the whole process (without any legal jargon!) and kept communication open up and down the chain to ensure we had a quick and easy move (with 5 houses in the chain this was no mean feat!) Leasa and Julie went above and beyond, were always accessible via email and telephone, and there was never any need to “chase” because they were both so on top of everything! Words can’t express our gratitude for all the support they gave us in helping us move to our dream home. Thank you both so much!

They make the transactions run very smoothly. They are clear with the information they provide to me, they are clear with the information they expect from me, and they are very thorough.
