She was advised that, because she had placed her Manchester house into a trust for her disabled son, she no longer owned it, making the Hove property her only residence. As a result, ethics advisers concluded she breached the ministerial code. Rayner resigned from all her roles, saying she “deeply regrets” not seeking specialist tax guidance.
